Hi, I just started selling crystals in the last 5 months, took a crash course just on the basic ones but always learning something new. Our wholesaler said that this was red quartz. Could it also be called tangerine quartz or blood quartz. What is so fascinating about this crystal is that during the day it has those rough white markings on it towards evening it goes completely red. There is no temperature change that I'm aware of and the sun has not set yet. What could cause this? Also no one has touched it. Those pictures were taken 3 hrs apart.

Hi, i just purchased a stone sphere from an op shop with no identification as to what it was. I can't figure it out from any guidebooks I have so any help would be appreciated a lot. Thank you.

I don't know. However, I have a set of bookends that look a lot like that. They are a polished section of a core sample taken by a company looking for oil. They are VERY heavy.

Very intriguing! And stunning deep red color
I wonder if it's a light reflection effect? Possibly there are tiny facets within the crystal that reflect light in angles during the day?
Yes, I believe that they can be called different names reflecting the deep red color. Tangerine quartz would, to my eye, be a paler shade. That one strikes me more as a 'blood quartz'.

It has a beautiful marbling on it.
Some calcites have varied shades like that too, though they're often more linear.
Yes this does have some weight to it. When I was googling i came across a pair of bookends that looked similar and sound like what you're describing. Still a bit different to what I have here I think. It's a real head scratcher but I assume it's something like you said. Something random and not usually known for collecting. Makes me wonder why it exists though. It came on a little wooden sphere stand and everything.
Yeah the marbling is lovely. I was thinking calcites too but I still can't seem to find anything close to it
Figuring it out is going to be one of the great mysteries of my life now that it's in my possession.
Any idea what any of these are? These people have been cutting/uprooting trees behind my house and there was a vein of rocks like these dug up from them, I’m pretty sure the darker green is malachite but I’m not sure??

Amethystforaquarius, I have many rocks like these where I live. Given the actual chunks of lava I've found, I know this area had a volcanic history. Often in the cooling process, different crystals accumulate together. The ones with red likely show a heavy iron content, which would be consistent with volcanic activity.

The first looks like quartz with iron oxides to me.
I agree that the green looks like malachite.

More malachite is my guess for the first.
That second piece could be many things with those beautiful linear striations. There are a few more pics of similar looking stones later (or perhaps the same stone?) The thing it reminds me of most is a stalchtite. Do you have caves in the area?
The third piece really looks melted so the volcanic activity that Linda mentions would intrigue me.
The beautiful red+ white striped looks like rhodochrosite to me.

Looks from one angle a bit like calcite, but I see points, so my guess would be quartz with hematite in it. You see that in some clusters like super seven. Interesting color! Angle of light can do a lot of tricks to the look of things, just because of how the light passes through the internal structures.
That was my first thought, that it looks more like matrix that a crystal would grow on or in, but I couldn't say what for sure.
The green looks a bit like tourmaline...? But the color is closer to dioptase, which can grow like that.
Agree with Lila on the bottom ones looking like fluorite, and am thinking fire opal for the top one, very nice! Do you like how the fluorite feels?

Yes, I believe jasper or jade are more likely than, say, calcite.
Due to the shade of colour I belive I'm seeing (photos can be tricky) I'd wonder if it isn't nephrite jade, depending on where you got it from.
