M7.9 - 46km E of Taron, Papua New Guinea (1 Viewer)

A massive 7.9 earthquake hit Papua New Guinea today. For reasons not explained the US National Geological Service downgrades earthquakes by one point after they happen. Does anyone know why they do this? This means it was a M8.9 originally. They have been getting a M6 every few days for a while now and those are BIG quakes. It seems the magnitude is increasing with each new earthquake.

I just checked and there are seven buoys in tsunami event mode from that giant earthquake. If a tsunami occurs to looks like it will head for South America.
