One of the members in the Lighthouse FB group posted the link to this story by Kieran Butler. I must say it is quite a masterful tale, and one that will live on for a long time.

Humanity was fast approaching a crossroads. It had been for quite some time. The notion of ‘infinite growth’ on a finite planet combined with mass unsustainable consumerism was the driving force behind the destruction and no one really cared to admit it. You see, we had grown quite fond of all the wonderful comforts and convenience it provided.
Fuelled by the acceleration of science and technology and our growing inability to be content, overconsumption of everything from fashion to entertainment had become our way of life. But technology without wisdom was only ever going to cause destruction. It was a bit like giving a toddler a jackhammer. We were only ever going to make a mess.

A gem from the storyline:

"They knew there must be some truth somewhere and it sure as shit wasn’t going to reveal itself on the evening news."
