I started researching pet food about 8 years ago. I've always purchased "good" food, but was oblivious to the ugly truths in that business. Some companies used downer cows, which are animals that are too sick to stand up, in their pet foods.

Even the good ones had lots of corn and other additives. Once I switched to a healthier brand, our lab, who had ear infections for 10 years, suddenly had no more ear problems. It was a grain allergy, and the vets totally missed that one.

I preached and preached and won over our kids and several friends and neighbors. Now it is common place for people to buy the better foods. Our local pet food store went from a few brands of the better food to a whole store full of them.

I briefly looked at homemade dog food, but there is so much to consider. I can barely manage our meals.
