Anyone moving to Asgardia? (1 Viewer)

On Wednesday, Asgardia was open for applications for 100,000 slots. By Friday afternoon they had almost 200,000 applicants. The details are a little sketchy about who is behind the project, how it is going to be funded, and so on - just a few little things!

It is an interesting idea, but I have a ton of questions for which there are no answers - at least publicly. Does anyone else think this is an odd way to go about this project?

My advice - see if there is a special cookbook hidden away.



PARIS ─ A proposed space nation called Asgardia is now accepting applications for future citizens.


Leaders of the Asgardia project discussed the prospective space nation at a news conference in Paris Wednesday (Oct. 12). The leaders aim to launch Asgardia's first satellite in 2017 and say they would like to eventually have a space station where some, but not all, of its planned 150 million (mostly Earth-dwelling) nationals would live and work.


Asgardia, named after the Norse gods' home of Asgard, will be a democracy with an emphasis on the freedom of the individual to develop space technologies, according to Igor Ashurbeyli, Asgardia project team leader and founder. People can now apply to be selected as one of the first 100,000 citizens through the nation’s website, asgardia.space. At the time of publication, the number of applicants has reached more than 84,000, according to the website. While Asgardia is not officially a nation (yet), prospective citizens must fulfil the legal requirements for Asgardia's United Nations application — for example, they must be from nations that allow multiple citizenships. Asgardia would be a nation in space, in low-Earth orbit, or beyond, the project leaders said. The Asgardia project team said they think they need at least tens of thousands of citizens before they formally apply to the U.N. for recognition (although there are 14 countries in the world with fewer than 100,000 citizens).

My reaction: I get a sense of some trickery involved...smoking out those who may be so inclined to self-identify or something. It just feels off to me....not sure why. And the picture of a grandfatherly Captain Kangaroo-type of pleasant seeming fellow doesn't feel right. I have no facts and maybe it is all legit...this is just the feeling I got.

Hmm, that's 3 of us already... I was looking for the 'creepy' emoticon as soon as I read Linda's interpretation that the details are sketchy.
It's certainly an intriguing idea. First launch hoped for next year and already a little nation's worth of folk signed up for a proposed low earth orbit station.

Hmmmm. Asgardia? Seems like they've got the letters jumbled a bit. I wonder if they really meant to say "Gardia as(s) (as in Guard ya as$)? Methinks I'd be watching suspiciously over my shoulder every minute of that flight. One never knows when one might be invited to be...er, um, I mean invited to dinner.

Oh, wait...the residents of this new nation would apparently be known as Asgardians. Would that be pronounced, "As$ Guardians")?

Whoop...there it is! So basically you pay to build your own home and sit like a rabbit in the headlights trapped in orbit.

I wonder about the naivity of the people (sheeple?) who sign up so fast for a thing like this before checking the background. Just look at how the number of signers goes up by the minute. Just like all those "facebook/twitter clicktrigger-happy humanists" who always 'Like' any seemingly charitable or politically correct motion or movement without any background checks. Scares me.

how will I get my Momotombo coffee beans from Nicaragua
will I have a place to make my cold brew coffee
will there be a Hilton so my family can come for visits
how big is the closet space (I have a lot of shoes)
what kind of work will I do (don't want to work in a Cardassian ore processing plant)

I know I'm being silly - sort of. Sure it is fun to think about, but there are a lot of unanswered questions.

In the graphic by James Vaughan to advertise the project (as an approximation), it appears the Dark Knight Satellite is in close proximity to the orbiting space station. Dark Knight also has a low-Earth orbit. I don't think that dark object is an asteroid, or the space station would have taken evasive action, as it is too close. No-one really knows what Dark Knight is for, except for Simon Parkes, who says it is for relay of mind-controlling microwaves. Why would they have included this object in the graphic as it only leads to further questions?

When I saw the name Igor Ashurbeyli, I intuitively thought "Azerbaijan". It turns out he is originally Azeri. I also thought "oil money" but I see that his area of expertise is nano science and nano technologies (computer science stream). If I see that, I think "nano bots" and small bots crawling around the blood stream. There must be all sorts of uses for nano bots when not subjected to gravity! It would also be like a greenhouse in the effect that the environment is contained.

But I wouldn't want to live on that grey soulless looking vehicle in Hailstones post, it looks like something the AIs might have built. Give me the ocean, waterfalls,rivers, mountains, green grass, vivid coloured flowers. Fresh pure air to breath and pure crystle water to drink, in the higher frequency of love. That is how I believe we were originaly intended to live, with full knowledge of the universe with all its diverse cultures and life forms.

Yeah June. I concur. If we are so easily able to get seasonal depression, i can only imagine what it would be like without the seasonal at all.
Not to mention. We already have the issues of unsustainability here. How on earth (ha!) Would it be possible to supply and create such a whimsical closed circuit in space, let alone having enough money and investment to keep it going.

It's a curious thought if this were to be where they ship everyone so as to let us earth lovers and protectors clean up their mess while they're gone. Heheh.

Nail on the head June! The natural beauty of this planet never ceases to amaze me - we (as in humanity as a whole) just need to take care of it better. Space travel/exploration is appealing to me for sure, but living in space full-time isn't. I'd miss Nature's loveliness too much....

You really don't appreciate what you got till it's it's gone. I agree Jenny. Live in the moment I love being in nature. Not in a pill.

Many what we call aliens, but let's say Other Beings, live full-time on various spheres or spacecraft for whatever reason, but probably because they've lost access to their original world in some way. So it is possible to acclimatise to it. But Earth is a jewel in the coronet with diversity of spectrum and vibration, and it would be la la crazyland to give that up and live on a sterile spaceship instead of learning to control our population consciously and learning how to get along with one another.

They want to perfect a technique, which is easier to test out in space, (i.e. in the parking lot). Perhaps it is the very first full hybridization of human clones? Your point about one world government is accurate, because of the emphasis on immigration status via the U.N. The U.N. is the arbiter of the one world government.

History likes to teach that all aliens(foreigners) are invaders. We know not all aliens are hostile. At the end of the day we'll use intuition to discern who to go with. Sorry I'm bleeding into Stargazers post "should I stay or should I go" Lots to think about here.
