Finally over my "ascension flu".... 
Fascinating thread, so I felt compelled to respond in kind.
There seems to be a misinterpretation about the "Event", as if it is the biblical Rapture. That seems to be the critical debate - whether it is a "rapture" or not. One-shot at the door to Narnia, or you stay in Life.....
My understanding is - it is not. It is similar to the Buddhist journey over infinite lifetimes to Enlightenment, to Nirvana. Some finish early, some finish later, some never finish, and some just decide to stay as vengeful spirits/ghosts, or decide to stay near their loved ones as "connected spirits".
Here's one way to imagine the whole picture.
All of us are running the Source-consciousness infinity "marathon", so to speak.
There are some who have reached peak athleticism, and have mastered their skills (Enlightenment), so they are allowed to leave at the mile markers. So this process continues forever, as Laron indicated. There are no winners or losers - every soul has to go through their journeys to learn their soul lessons, or they get sent back to the starting line (this is what suicide does, at least based on my understanding of soul lessons).
The "Event" is basically a very big exit on mile 26 (as a crude example), that says if you can finish your journey at this mile, you will get to go on some spiritual "HyperLoop" (New Earth, other dimensions, Grid dimension, other selves, etc.) first before you finish your trip back to your HS and the Source. Otherwise, if you don't finish, that is fine - continue on your run past mile 26 and keep on going with your soul lessons. Of course, with this scenario, there may be some of us who are ready, look at mile 26, and say no, I'm not getting off, I'm staying on the marathon - I want to continue my soul life lessons. Everyone has a choice, and most importantly, everyone is running their individual spiritual marathons.
Also, please be aware to separate your HS-soul with your karmic-relationship connections in this lifetime. It is extremely hard, but that is the basic foundation of what Topi and Laron have been teaching. Each of us have our own HS and soul journeys. Our families and deep relationships in this lifetime and other lifetimes are actually karmic connections that accompany our soul journeys - they do not represent our individual "enlightenment" levels. Therefore, being concerned about whether your family will accompany you to "New Earth" during the Event is not a higher-consciousness thought - it is basically karmic connection. We can choose to sever our karmic connections and continue on our soul journeys, or we can tie our knots and be locked onto Earth timeline #33, and accompany our families and relationships. Some may even accompany us through to #42, but that is up to their individual consciousness paths, not because of any connection with us.
There is no need to focus on population numbers for the Event. However, there seems to have been a significant "minimum required number" that was achieved in 2010-2012(?) which triggered a timeline change so that the ELEs were "cancelled".
But again, that does not mean those "numbers" are all connected - just enough woke up to trigger the timeline fork to #42. Hence, all of us have been giving this great opportunity to reach a different dimension, timeline, etc.
