I love folk music of all kinds. This kind of (Eastern Europe?) Blasmusik (folk wind music, trumpets etc.) reminds me of what I had to do in my youth years but I loved it. In Germany we also have a lot of "Blasmusik" and I had to play some gigs for friends and on weddings and parties with a few friends of mine who all did this kind of music. First I did not like it because I regarded myself as a 'serious rock music drummer', but as a friend and as s.o. with a kind of humour they always convinced me to join them (and they had no other drummer available ...). So of course I did and it was always fun and I have fond memories of it. It is easier to play of course than what I played with my melodic prog rock band, but that had the advantage that I could get drunk on German beer while still being able to play it which made it even easier for me .
(And yes, beer and blasmusik is the infamous and indespensible Oktoberfest combination too. Prost!)

That's fun to know! I also think it sounds a lot like Klezmer music (Sephardic Jewish music) which I have always loved for its energy and optimism.

My fourth installment of the Native American (influenced) music.

This is (after Tool!) now another one of my absolute fav artists. He does alternative folk / country with lots of ethnic influences from around the world. Recently he turned more into an indie rocker.

There's also Native American influence like in these two examples - but that is no surprise since one of his grandfathers was a Native American iirc.

The first example is based on a kind of Indian traditional. Its barely 2 minutes are packed with an incredible amount of energy and an explosive ending. It has more energizing effect on me than any metal song (seriously).


The second one is even more of the haunting kind for me. It also has NA influence and lyrics, clearly audible ("living on Indian land"). However David Eugene Edwards would not be him if he had not his religious content too when it surprisingly turns into a "hallelujah". He is a devout Christian and Jesus follower, often singing about stories and topics from the old testament too - but also sometimes seems to address a greater spirituality in general, including his "Indian" heritage.

His general message according to an interview for his audience is to believe in something 'higher' and in his music he seems (imv) to express a deeper spiritual longing for our true spiritual home - hence its tint of darker subtones and expressive melancholy. That's at least what I get out of most of his great songs and lyrics, between the lines and sometimes even very directly. I love his music, he is a 'truly divine' artist for me.

The Background - When I was a little girl, my mom had little interest in fashion or hairstyles. So, my only exposure to this mysterious world was through my friends' older sisters. A couple of them would let us hang out while they got ready for dates. What a magical process this was - putting hair up in a french twist, make-up, petticoats. It was a ritual, and I felt part of a secret world. One of the big groups at that time was Frankie Valle and the Four Seasons. Not exactly my kind of music (I am a rock-n-roll gal), but I have warm memories of playing those 45 records.

The secret wish - I want to dance down the street in joy and enthusiasm with a group of people.

Which brings us to the closing credits of The Jersey Boys.

My fifth and last installment of Native American influenced music, don't want to torture you more with it and will move on to or return to the drummers, so let's end this on a light note. Yeah, it's not that serious this time.

Nena, 80ies New-German-Wave star (who had a huge hit 99 Red Ballons world-wide including the US) with a song called "Indians", it is even a bit catchy and not as bad as one might expect. And there's nothing better than that freaky 80ies musicians' clothing on stage. If your ears or eyes can hurt from 80ies pop trash, be warned and skip this video/post.

Ok, after Pucksterguy's guitar hit list I remembered I promised drummers - but found out it gets too difficult because there is too many vids and too many drummers to post.
I will choose musical pieces and not drum solos because I figure no one will be interested too much in that.

Too difficult still. I think I narrow it down with a surprising filter in the realm of drums, which is still a kind of 'male domain': I choose women drummers only. (For a man with a 17th century musical woman avatar pic not a surprise...)

I found some amazing ones recently and will post my top-3 here only.

(And no, it is not goint to feature the ex wife of Prince, Sheila E, not saying she is bad, but there are really better ones in my view).

With a guitar it's easy to pick instrumental pieces. not so much with a drum kit. Lots of great solos out there. I can't think of many female drummers tho. I gotta look it up now.

All of my top 3 are kind of into instrumental jazz-rock-fusion stuff with some prog/progressive elements here and there. No 'known' bands they play(ed) in.

The one who are proficient and play(ed) with really famous musicians are the two "Grand Dames" who have been around a while. Already mentioned Sheila E. (played for Prince and was his wife) and Cindy Blackman (Santana and is his wife, plays for Lenny Kravitz).

Blackman is great to look at when playing because she uses the traditional grip over the whole set because she is a jazz drummer by origin and heart, even if she plays more rock style.

Traditional grip looks so cool and skilled. I love it. Still, it's all a matter of taste, but she is not in my top 5 of female drummers from how or what she plays, maybe in my top 10 though.

Great drummers, both of 'em. I kinda liked Shiela's style a bit better but i gotta listen to more of their stuff. Give this a listen an all girl Zeppelin band. the drummer is good I don't know their names or background but they do a pretty good job.

Recently I rediscovered and rekindled my love of my favourite band from the early 80ies.

Art Rock band Spliff.

I now listened to this and started to wonder if this is even a kind of starseed song. Since this is (also) a starseed and ET-oriented forum in some way, I thought I could post it here.

Made a short and quick translation from German to English of the first part of this song "Sirius":
