Pucksterguy The Wallflowers - One Headlight - I used to drive down the road singing the chorus at the top of my lungs - something about it was meshing just right at the time

Had not thought of it in a long time - thanks

Happy Metal

Yes, Heavy Metal can be uplifting and/or fun and just plain silly. Here's just 3 examples to break the prejudice and paradigm of any metalhead's supposed obligation to be 'evil'. Most relevant lyrics added.

"Ding Ding Ding!"

"Ma Ma Ma Ma!"

"..." (no lyrics ... and no comment)

The first one I would classify as heavy pop.
I like the last one and am fond of Rammstein. Anyone can dance to their music. Hehe

Yeah, it is the japanese J-pop or Kawaii pop (kawaii means cute) phenomenon, this is the metal edition of it. Like their dancing a lot, they have really good choreographies. And like Flake's moves too, of course. Flake is one of the funniest (stage) figures in metal. He and the singer or R+ (Till Lindemann, who unbelievably is also a poet writing Romanticism poetry books) are a bit like the famous comic duo Laurel and Hardy, just a more heavy and 'brutal' version of it. ;)

I remember a few songs from back then but admit I was never into them (meaning bought a vinyl or cd) although I listened to some Gothic or related stuff now and then (Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Cure, The Cult). Once (around 1991 or so) went to a concert of Sisters of Mercy with a buddy. I was disappointed (being a drummer in bands at that time) because I had not known before that day that they did not have a drummer but used a drum machine live. :fp

One of the best 80ies bands for me (always been underrated):

Life's What You Make It

Baby, life's what you make it
Can't escape it
Baby, yesterday's favorite
Don't you hate it
Baby life's what you make it
Don't back date it
Baby, don't try to shade it
Beauty is naked
Baby, life's what you make it
Celebrate it
Anticipate it
Yesterday's faded
Nothing can change it
Life's what you make it

As well as the other band that began with "Talk..."

Same as it ever was :fp - same as it ever was :fp - same as it ever was :fp. Same ... as ... it ... ever ... was!

Absolutely priceless 'performance' before a mike stand by David Byrne on fire (hence David Burn):

The entire live concert movie is great btw (filmed 1983).

For me, Michael Stipe was at his best in the late 80s / early 90s. A truly introverted poet on stage. Later he changed his attics a bit to a more rock star appearance. Still okay but I liked him more from his early performances.

'Tourfilm' (from 1990) is a great concert movie, different, very 'artful'. Just like Talking Head's 'Stop Making Sense' was a few years before. Somehow I thought they were inspired by that movie because Stipe is also wearing a suit. I recommend both movies if you ever come across them. Of course, parts are on YT and such but the DVDs are worth it.

"I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in"
(I agree.;))

Singing into a megaphone on stage. Even more priceless.

"I could turn you inside-out
What I choose not to do
I could turn you inside-out
What I choose not to do

Given the choice
Given the heart
Given the tool
Given the word"

Since both "Talks" were so good in the 80ies, here's an encore:

"Hi, I got a tape I wanna play ..."

One of the best concert openers. They start building the stage with every song. Cool concept.

And here's some more, nice sweaty funk music with three (!!) independent E-guitars (plus 1 bass or course, so 4 altogether) harmonizing perfectly in rhythm, then followed by a truly dadaistic song and hypnotic performance with "I Zimbra", leaves you baffled and dazed. o_O

This is not just a concert. This is art.

And here, for me one of the best organ songs of all times:

"Only Angels look before they tread."

Mark Hollis, a unique voice til this very day in music, seems he really lived in another world then.
;)

At last, their biggest hit:

Aurora has a truly Angelic voice. And Einar a cool Viking beard. (I want one, will start growing now...).

From the YT description:

Helvegen (here featuring Aurora) is a song about death, dying and remembering those who have passed. About crossing over and about letting go. It is a song about searching for lost songs and old traditions.
The Way to Hel
I sought the songs I sent the songs when the deepest well offered drops so mighty of Valfather’s pledge I know it all, Odin where you hid your eye Who will sing me in the death-sleep sling me when I walk the road to Hel and the tracks I tread are cold, so cold Early or in fading day still the raven knows if I fall When you stand by the gate of Hel and when you must tear loose follow you I shall across the bridge of Gjöll with my song You become free from the bonds that bind you You are free from the bonds that bound you

You all are going to love this! O.o:D 10-year-old Collier performs with the Foo Fighters in Kansas City, Kansas, USA. When asked what he knows, he says a lot of Metallica. Bless them - they played along with him. Plus, at the end, David Grohl gives him his guitar. I LOVE stories like this!

Unda - Wave

Unda attingit
The wave has reached you

Te et abducit
And now it is sweeping you away

Te in profunda
[Carrying] you into the deep

Sicut es unda

And now, you are [a part of] the wave

... hmm, kind of quantum physics, or what ...
